Cat Boy

  I shot a  little boy today who meowed for the first 15 minutes we were together. I got his attention by pretending to be a lion tamer.   I love that age where you believe you are someone else.

A few months ago I heard this song by Charlie Chaplin and it was my  inspiration

for this shoot about a sad trapeze artist.   I   shot it at my old trapeze school in Oakland.  http://www.trapezearts.com/ 

 Jeanne-Marie Masson http://www.jeannemariemasson.com/ did the styling and Peggy Lucas http://www.peggylucas.biz/htmlver/ did hair and makeup.  The two sisters who modeled for me  had never been on a trapeze before but Trapeze Arts provided us with a coach.  

Light in the Loo

 It has always been LIGHT that drives me and the light from my bathroom was calling to me during a photo test in my loft last weekend. No matter what, I  ALWAYS  listen to my intuition.  So, I abandoned my set- up in the other room and quickly took this shot of this stunning little girl. I only had a few minutes before the light changed but I captured the image.

The behind the scenes shots are always very amusing to me so I wanted to include the other 2 snapshots on the left.

Ewwwww! 

An art director said when he really wants to get little kids to laugh...he tells them about  the time when he was 4 and ate a whole can of Spaghetti-o's and then took a bath in his underwear with his 3 year old sister and then threw up the Spaghetti O's in the tub.  He says kids can't stop laughing.     So I tried his story out on these "big kids"  and it didn't make them laugh. 

Mirror Mirror on the Wall

I interviewed some special little 5-6 year olds for an audition for the cover of a magazine next week in New York. I discovered by accident that by having them look into a mirror, they would forget everything and go totally into their own world and I could see into their souls for a quick second.
They would tell me that they were going to be vampires for Halloween and their pet fish was named Turtle and their mother was going to have a baby but it was a secret. I love my job!

A Dry Run

I try to prepare as much in advance as I can. In this case, we had a series of "backyard games" to shoot for an editorial. I thought I had better practice my panning techniques out on my crew before the kid models got there. Then I wanted to try each of the games to see if they really worked. It was fun to see the little kid in all of us come out when we started playing. Adults are just big kids anyway. I remember when I finally really, really got that years ago..
